The Mental Health Week 2025

For the fourth year in a row, Umeå Student Union invites all students to take part in our Mental Health Week. During these days, we focus on students’ mental and physical well-being through lectures, workshops, panel discussions, feelgood breakfasts, and much more.

For all our activities, we’re giving away a cinema ticket to the first ten participants. This does not apply to our feelgood breakfasts or the quiz walk followed by EPP. So make sure to be on time! You’re of course welcome to bring your own lunch box to our lunch lectures.

Balettakademin
The lecture “Dans för hälsa” explores how dance can support young people’s mental well-being by promoting joy of movement, a pressure-free environment, and a sense of community. The approach was developed at Örebro University as part of the so-called Dansprojektet, where research on youth mental health formed the basis for a non-competitive and inclusive method based on dance and movement. Lina Ahlström, licensed physiotherapist and dance instructor at the Ballet Academy, will share how this is being used in Umeå and explain why it makes a difference—for both young people and adults.

In connection with the lecture, Balettakademin is launching a course at their premises on Nygatan 43. The price is heavily reduced and no prior experience is required. Read more about the course and book your place here.

Västerbottensteatern presents ”Allt som är värt”
An uplifting play about feeling low. With warmth, humor, and hit songs from 1987 to today, tough topics are explored in a disarming, moving, and entertaining way. Allt som är värt has quickly become an international success. Now Riksteatern is touring the play across Sweden. Experience a surprising monologue where the audience and the actor create the performance together!

Please note that you need a ticket for this event. You can pick one up at Umeå Student Union, Studenthälsan, Kyrkan på campus, or the Infocenter. Tickets are completely free.

BBQ hang out in Nydala
Let’s take advantage of the night before it disappears in a few weeks!
The Buddy Programme organises a grill and chill hang out at Nydala where everyone is welcome to join! Come with your friends or alone, whether you want to grill some food, play music/boardgames or just chill, to enjoy an evening near the lake and with a bit of luck see some northern lights (or a cloudy sky).
Bring your guitar, warm clothes or maybe even your camera!

The Buddy Programme will bring a load of marshmallows, wood, matches and paper to burn. But feel free to grab whatever you’d like to have at a bonfire! (sausages, burgers, drinks, etc.). The only rule is that we clean after ourselves and leave nature as we found it.

Det är mycket man inte måste

CANCELLED DUE TO ILLNESS

“If you wish to make a person happy, do not give her riches—take away a few of her desires, wrote Euripides. To renounce, to say no, to sift through one’s wishes is to create space and room for something greater. There is much that one neither must, nor even needs…” – from the book

In his book Det händer när du vilar , he invites the reader into the world of rest and explores a recurring pattern found in everything from forgotten names to lasting love: Let go! Stop trying! Instead, allow life to come to you.

“Rest is not the final sigh of exhaustion, but an opening for new beginnings. In love, in work, in the creative process, in the shaping of the person I wish to become—perhaps even the one I do not yet know I wish to become.” – from the book
